ADC South East Gears Up to Welcome Two Serving Governors, Federal Lawmakers

The South East Zonal Executive Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that two serving governors from the region are set to officially defect to the party in the coming weeks.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri over the weekend, the ADC National Vice Chairman for the South East, Hon. Chilos Godsent, confirmed that consultations are ongoing and nearing completion. He noted that the expected defections are part of the party’s broader strategy to reposition itself as a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are in advanced talks with two serving governors in the South East. Very soon, they will publicly declare for our great party. This move is in line with our resolve to deliver the South East to ADC in 2027,” Chilos stated.

In addition to the governors, Godsent disclosed that several members of the National Assembly and state legislatures have expressed readiness to join the ADC. A federal lawmaker who spoke anonymously said the decision to align with the ADC is aimed at building a strong progressive coalition to challenge what he described as “the poverty and hardship brought about by the Ahmed Bola Tinubu-led government.”

The ADC, which has been repositioning itself as an alternative platform for Nigerians seeking change, appears to be gaining momentum in the region with these impending high-profile defections.
