CP Orutugu Leads Anti-Cultism Walk in Anambra, Issues Stern Warning to Criminal Elements

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, on Friday led a statewide walk and advocacy campaign against cultism and other social vices, warning perpetrators that the Command would no longer tolerate activities capable of undermining public peace and security.

The exercise, held on December 19, 2025, brought together senior police officers, personnel of the Command, critical stakeholders and concerned members of the public in a show of collective resolve to rid the state of cult-related violence and criminality.
Addressing participants during the walk, CP Orutugu “read the riot act” to individuals involved in cultism and allied crimes, stressing that the Police would deploy all lawful means to prevent crime, apprehend offenders and sustain law and order across Anambra State.

He explained that the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) is a community-driven initiative of the Nigeria Police Force, which prioritises engagement, advocacy, prevention and strategic partnerships, rather than enforcement alone.

The Commissioner emphasised that tackling cultism requires collective responsibility, calling on parents, community leaders, religious institutions, transport unions and youth groups to actively guide young people away from crime and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Stakeholders at the event included officials of the Nigerian Red Cross Society; Hon. Ken Okoli, Youth President-General of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU); Hon. Kingsley Ezika, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security (Anti-Cultism) and Chairman of POCACOV in Anambra State; Comrade Surveyor Emeka Obi; the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State; and Chief Mike Ozoemena, Managing Director of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), among others.

Also in attendance were representatives of tricycle (keke) and bus drivers’ unions, who pledged to sustain the advocacy and provide timely information to security agencies to help curb cultism and other criminal activities in the state.
Reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on cult-related violence, CP Orutugu assured residents of the Police’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Anambra State.
