FRSC, Police Strengthen Partnership to Ease Yuletide Traffic in Anambra

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Bridget Asekhuno, has met with the Onitsha Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nzota Chidi, to strengthen inter-agency collaboration ahead of the Yuletide rush.

The meeting, held in Onitsha on Thursday, focused on strategies to manage the anticipated surge in vehicular movement and ease congestion around critical corridors, including the Niger Bridge, the Second Niger Bridge and major routes within Onitsha metropolis.

Asekhuno said the engagement was part of proactive measures by the FRSC to ensure free flow of traffic and enhance safety for road users during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. She emphasised that effective traffic management during the festive season requires strong synergy among security and traffic management agencies.
“Working in synergy with sister agencies remains key to achieving seamless traffic flow and guaranteeing the safety of all road users, especially during peak travel periods,” she said, while soliciting sustained support from the police to complement FRSC operations.

In his response, ACP Nzota Chidi assured the FRSC of the full cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force, pledging the deployment of officers to work closely with FRSC personnel to ensure a safer and more orderly traffic environment throughout the festive season.

Meanwhile, the FRSC Anambra State Command has deployed about 2,000 personnel, comprising regular and special marshals, to strategic traffic points across the state. The deployment also includes tow trucks for prompt removal of broken-down vehicles and an ambulance to provide swift rescue and emergency services when required.
The Command has appealed to residents of Anambra State to cooperate with traffic officers and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to ensure smooth movement during the festivities. Motorists and other road users were also advised to report emergencies through the FRSC toll-free number, 122.
