Cubana Chief Priest Suffers Setback in APC Reps Race, loses to incumbent lawmaker

Popular nightlife entrepreneur and socialite, Cubana Chief Priest, has reportedly suffered a political setback in his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The celebrity businessman, who had publicly declared his intention to represent the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State under the APC platform, was said to have lost out in the party’s internal selection process, according to reports.

Cubana Chief Priest, popularly known for his influence in Nigeria’s entertainment and hospitality industry, had in recent weeks intensified consultations with party stakeholders and supporters across Imo State in pursuit of his political ambition.

The socialite had earlier announced his aspiration through social media, where he stated that his desire to contest was driven by a commitment to contribute to the development of his constituency and empower young people.

His entrance into partisan politics generated widespread reactions across the country, with supporters praising his grassroots popularity and philanthropic activities, while critics questioned the growing influx of celebrities into elective politics.

Political observers, however, noted that despite his public appeal and visibility, internal party structures, alliances and grassroots political networks remain decisive factors in securing party nominations in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Cubana Chief Priest’s failed attempt to clinch the APC ticket is expected to spark fresh conversations about celebrity influence in politics and the challenges entertainers face in transitioning into active governance.

The development comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several new entrants positioning themselves for legislative and executive offices across the country.
