IKEDURU LGA FINDS SUCCOUR IN DR. OBIYO'S DONATIONS AS COVID-19 BITES

Samuel-Mary & Dame Emily Obiyo Foundation which is for charity, has personal protective equipment to indigent men and women in Imo State, especially those from Ikeduru LGA to protect them from the ravages of coronavirus. Other items generously  shared were packs and bags of rice, noodles, beans, salt, etc, all of immense quantity, with high quality.

The donation occasion, held Friday May 8, 2020 at Ugiri-ike, Nneise in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State the country home of the president of the foundation Dr. Uzoma Obiyo, witnessed massive attendance and has been adjudged unprecedented.

Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, speaking on the occasion, lauded the President of the Foundation for his initiation, stating that it complements the state government's efforts very well. Governor Uzodimma, represented by his Special Adviser on Diaspora Affairs Lady Celia Osakwe Gilbert enjoined Imo People to emulate Dr. Obiyo in showing kindness, especially during this difficult season. The Imo Governor harped on the need for regular hand wash, use of hand sanitizers, face masks, and strict adherence to other guidelines from government and health agencies in other to stay safe.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Ikeduru LGA, Chief Tony Jude Iwuamadi thanked Dr. Obiyo for using his foundation to reach all the 29 autonomous communities and 12 INEC Political Wards that make up Ikeduru LGA, asking God to replenish his source.

Reacting, President of the Foundation, Dr. Uzoma Obiyo thanked all present in the occasion, and added that the fight against COVID-19 should not be left in the hands of government, alone. Dr Obiyo said that distributiion of the items to his people as palliatives are part of social responsibility which is the very essence of setting up the Foundation. Dr. Obiyo who is appointed by Imo State government  to champion COVID-19 fund-raise, seized the occasion to call on good spirited individuals, corporate establishments and  multinational companies to feel free and donate  to Imo State Government account number designated for COVID-19, assuring that God loves a cheerful giver.

Highlight of the event was the surprising  decoration of Dr. Uzoma Obiyo as Patron of COVID-19 Task Force Committee by the Ikeduru IMC Chairman  and Members of COVID-19, to the admiration, felicitation and prayers of the indigent men and women.

Those who witnessed the charity programme were Hon. Dr. Uche Oguwuike, (former House Member representing Ikeduru State Constituency), Lady Amaka Okafor ( S.A Media to Imo Governor), Chief Chris Akaraonye (NUJ Chairman, Imo State), Hon. Sam Amaka (Fmr. Council Chairman, Ikeduru LGA), and a renowned party chieftain Hon. Jude Opara also known as Shapume, among others.

The following traditional rulers were in attendance: HRH Eze Uzodimma of Omuma Autonomous Community, Oru East LGA, HRH, Eze Ezeala of Nneise autonomous  community and HRH, Eze Osiyi of Inyishi autonomous community.

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order

The President of Uruagu-Nnewi Development Union, Chief Sunday Okoli aka Organizer, and the Obi of Uruagu-Nnewi community in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra State, His Majesty Afamefuna Charles Obi, have swept Soludo's directive to the gutters, by reason of their suspension and subsequent dessolution of the leadership of the community's youth forum, led by Ejike Ifejiofor, and subsequent appointment of caretaker executive to pilot the affairs of youths in the community. The Anambra governor had, through a letter dated August 9, 2024, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development, Dr. Martin Agbili, warned the community leaders to stay any action regarding suspension of the Uruagu-Nnewi youth forum.
