Global Road Safety Week: FRSC Anambra Calls for Collective Action

.....Commends Gov Soludo For Road Infrastructure in Anambra

As the world commemorates the Global Road Safety Week, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra Command is emphasizing the need for collective action to prevent road accidents and ensure safe roads. The Sector Commander, Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, highlighted the importance of road safety management and the need for stakeholders to work together to achieve a common goal. She stressed that this year's Global Road Safety week which comes every two years lays emphasis on Safety on the roads with the Theme, Making Walking & Cycling Safe. 

Road accidents are a leading cause of death and injury worldwide. In Nigeria, road traffic crashes are a major public health concern, resulting in significant economic losses and emotional trauma for families and communities. The FRSC Anambra Command says it is however committed to reducing the incidence of road accidents in the state through effective enforcement and education, to this end the Sector Commander in Anambra Joyce Nnennaya Alexander stressed the overall importance of making sure that commuters and passengers understand that safety is paramount in whatever they do on the road. 

Continuing, she said that the FRSC Anambra Command has designated this week as Total War on Critical Offenses (TOWCO) which is nationwide focuses on offenses such as number plate violation, speed limit violation, and passenger manifest irregularities. These offenses the Sector Commander said, are critical because they can result in fatalities and casualties. The command also incorporated mobile courts into their enforcement activities, as Chief Magistrate A.N Okoli of Awka Magistrate Court was on ground to ensure that offenders who were 31 in number were brought to justice, as most of them were booked for the violation they committed which will serve as deterrent to others. 


The Sector Commander however emphasized the need for safe infrastructure to support walking and cycling, saying that will help support non motorized transportation and also reduce pollution in the state.  She commended Governor Charles Soludo for building beautiful roads but noted that more needs to be done to improve infrastructure that will support walking and cycling while seeking more partnership with stakeholders, particularly the Anambra State Government, to make roads safer for all users. The command commended the government for its efforts in improving road infrastructure and urge them to continue in that direction
She also called on governments to adopt the safe system approach, which involves building roads with infrastructure that prevents crashes,  incorporating features that protect pedestrians and cyclists.


The Global Road Safety Week is an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the importance of road safety and take action to prevent accidents. The FRSC Anambra Command is however committed to ensuring road safety in the state and urges all road users to adhere to safety guidelines and regulations.

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order
