NATE Seeks Partnership with Federal Polytechnic Oko to Boost Engineering Practicals

The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Anambra State branch, has expressed its readiness to partner with the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, under the leadership of Rector Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, to advance the institution’s technological and engineering practical programmes.

Led by the State Chairman, Mr. Okoloedo Ejike, the delegation made its intentions known during a courtesy visit to the Rector in her office. The association outlined plans to enhance students’ hands-on experience through exhibitions, excursions, and collaborative projects that will bridge classroom learning with industry practices.

Speaking during the visit, the State Vice Chairman and South-East Zonal Secretary, Engr. Patrick Ugochukwu, described NATE as a professional body of practical engineers regulated by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Established in 1976 and incorporated in 1988, NATE’s mandate, he noted, is to promote professional excellence among technologists, engineers, technicians, and craftsmen while fostering self-reliance in Nigeria’s technological development.

Engr. Ugochukwu appealed to the Polytechnic to support NATE members working within the institution, stressing the need for professional development opportunities. He also commended Dr. Awuzie for her achievements in transforming the school’s infrastructure and informed her that the national body had approved her nomination for an honorary fellowship award in recognition of her contributions to engineering in Nigeria.

The association further requested the Polytechnic’s collaboration in implementing COREN’s new roadmap of “catching them young” by integrating oath-taking ceremonies for HND I engineering students during matriculation, and for HND II students at graduation. According to the plan, graduates will subsequently undergo a one-year internship in an engineering industry. NATE also sought institutional support for the forthcoming chartering of its Aguata branch in terms of logistics and funding.

In her response, Rector Dr. Chioma Awuzie thanked NATE for the visit and for its willingness to partner with the Polytechnic in developing engineering practicals. She encouraged NATE members within the institution to take advantage of TETFund sponsorship opportunities for conferences by applying early to improve approval chances.

Dr. Awuzie assured the association of the institution’s support in areas that align with its vision for academic and technological excellence.
