As the August 16 election approaches, voters in Onitsha North I Constituency appear to have consolidated around the candidacy of Barr. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), whose record and experience have continued to attract widespread support.
Despite the campaign visit of former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, in support of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, constituency stakeholders say the visit has not altered the resolve of many voters who had already aligned with what they describe as a candidate “with clear competence and capacity.”
Residents who spoke on the political mood in the constituency noted that the lessons of the 2023 elections have made the electorate more discerning, with many insisting they would no longer vote based on emotion or political bandwagon.
According to them, Barr. Azikiwe stands out as the most prepared contender, bringing a blend of legislative experience and legal expertise that uniquely positions her for effective representation. She served as a legislative aide at the National Assembly in Abuja for eight years and is also an accomplished legal practitioner.
Widely known by the title Obuzoeme, a name she earned from her track record of service and compassion, Barr. Azikiwe is seen by many supporters as the candidate best suited to advance the interests of the constituency.
As election day draws near, her supporters remain confident that she will secure the mandate to represent Onitsha North I in the State House of Assembly.
