DIG Benjamin Okolo Assumes Duty as Supervisory Officer for Anambra Governorship Election


— Police assure of peaceful, credible polls on November 8


The Nigeria Police Force has announced that Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Benjamin Okolo, fdc, has formally assumed duty as the Supervisory Officer in charge of all police personnel deployed for the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.


According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the DIG officially took charge on Thursday, November 6, 2025, following his earlier representation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) during the signing of the peace accord among political candidates and at various stakeholders’ engagements.


DIG Okolo, alongside the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni, had represented the IGP at earlier pre-election activities, underscoring the Force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible poll in the state.


As the Supervisory Officer, DIG Okolo is expected to oversee the operational framework, coordinate field deployments, and ensure strict adherence to the Nigeria Police Force’s Rules of Engagement throughout the election. His assignment, according to the statement, is part of the strategic security measures approved by the Inspector General of Police to guarantee a secure and professionally managed electoral process across Anambra State.


The Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights of citizens, safeguarding electoral materials, and ensuring that all political actors and residents conduct themselves lawfully during the election period.


“The public is enjoined to remain law-abiding, cooperate fully with Police officers and other security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activity or security threat,” the statement read in part.


Assisting DIG Okolo in coordinating election security operations are AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, the Commissioner of Police for the Anambra Governorship Election, CP Abayomi Shogunle, PhD, fsi, other Commissioners of Police deployed across the 21 local government areas of the state, and several strategic senior officers.


The statement further noted that DIG Okolo can be reached directly via 08033299629 for any election-related security issues or emergencies.


The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to deliver on its mandate of maintaining law and order before, during, and after the November 8 governorship election.
