Amb Lotanna Ikebunwa Unveils 2027 Bid for Nnewi Federal Constituency

From Ijeoma John

Ambassador Ikebunwa Lotanna has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, pledging to pursue what he described as “visible, people-centered development” for the industrial hub.
Describing the constituency as a “powerhouse of enterprise and innovation,” Lotanna said Nnewi’s long-standing reputation as a center for auto spare parts manufacturing, trade and entrepreneurship has earned it national and global recognition. He noted that beyond its thriving markets and industrial clusters, the constituency boasts skilled artisans, professionals, creative youths and resilient women who have significantly contributed to Anambra State’s and Nigeria’s economic growth.

However, he argued that the area has yet to receive federal infrastructure and representation commensurate with its economic contributions.

“Our roads require improvement. Our public schools and health facilities need modernization. Our youths seek greater opportunities. Our manufacturers need stable electricity. Our communities deserve clean water, security and inclusion in national opportunities,” he said.

Lotanna outlined a legislative and constituency development agenda centered on youth empowerment, infrastructure renewal and economic expansion. According to him, priority will be given to human capital development through digital, vocational and entrepreneurial training programmes aimed at preparing young people for the modern economy. He also proposed the establishment of technology hubs and innovation centers across the constituency to nurture startups and connect youths to global opportunities.

On economic inclusion, the aspirant pledged structured support for petty traders and market women through seed capital initiatives, financial literacy programmes and improved access to cooperative funding. He described women as “the backbone of the constituency’s economy” and called for deliberate policies to strengthen their enterprises.

In the education sector, Lotanna said he would advocate for the modernization of public schools, including the provision of digital tools, science laboratories and improved learning facilities. He also promised to push for enhanced federal funding for healthcare and improved equipment for public hospitals and primary health centres.

Security and infrastructure also feature prominently in his plans. He pledged to support community security initiatives, improve street lighting, encourage CCTV installation and strengthen collaboration with security agencies. On power supply, he said he would sponsor motions to address distribution challenges and facilitate the installation of new transformers in communities facing overload and power outages.

The aspirant further promised to expand access to clean water through borehole projects, rehabilitation of existing facilities and advocacy for federal water infrastructure upgrades.

If elected, Lotanna said he would leverage his position in the House of Representatives—popularly known as the Green Chamber—to lobby for federal jobs and appointments for qualified constituents. He also proposed the creation of a Constituency Employment Desk to connect residents with national opportunities and attract low-cost housing initiatives for low-income earners.

“My mission is to unlock prosperity, modernize our communities and ensure that every ward in Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo feels the impact of responsible representation,” he said.
Lotanna called on constituents to support his 2027 bid, promising strong advocacy, strategic legislation and measurable development outcomes for the federal constituency.
