High Chief Dr. Chinedu Anthony Umeadi, founder of the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation and recipient of the 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Man of the Year Award, has been commended for his exemplary service throughout his tenure as the award holder. Correspondent  of The Sun Newspaper in Anambra state, Aloysius Attah, has won the 2025 edition of the Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Ethical Journalism Prize of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council. The Prize was instituted in the year 2020 by Prof. Chinyere Okunna, first female professor of mass communication in sub-Saharan Africa and presently Deputy Vice Chancellor, Paul University, Awka , to reward  outstanding journalists  that adhered to the core ethics of journalism practice  in their reports and in their personal conducts while in practice. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has announced a planned power outage in Anambra State and parts of Enugu State, including Oji River and adjoining communities. According to a statement issued by the company’s Group Head, Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, the outage will take place from Sunday, August 31, to Monday, September 1, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily. Ezeh explained that the exercise is to enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) maintenance team to replace faulty overhead stack porcelain insulators at its 330kV switch yard in Awada. He noted that electricity supply to customers within the affected areas will be interrupted during the maintenance period, while assuring that the exercise is targeted at enhancing service delivery. The EEDC management expressed regret over the inconvenience the planned outage might cause customers and appealed for their patience and understanding.

A kidnapping gang operating with Sienna bus  has struck again at Fegge, Onitsha in Anambra State where they abducted a man at Porthacourt Road near Uga Street. An eyewitness account said the incident  took place at about4.30 pm  last Thursday at 37 Porthacourt Road, Fegge, Onitsha opposite one Hanza Suleman's provision store near United Bank for African (UBA). The man was said to have been blocked with the kidnappers' Sienna, even as he  frantically shouted  for help.  Inspite of  the shout for help, the armed men were said to have  alighted from their  Sienna bus already packed with people unaware that they were kidnappers.  In a jiffy, said the eyewitness,  about five of them came out from the vehicle, blocked the man armed with their AK 47 raffles and brought their handcuffs, pretending to be security officers.  The man was said to have resisted  to be handcuffed but they succeeded only in one of his hands b...

The Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Bursar, Mr. Stephen Udu, fondly known as Udummili. He passed away while in active service. Residents of Anambra State and Oji River in Enugu State have been thrown into total blackout following an explosion that occurred at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station in Awada in the early hours of Wednesday. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), in a statement issued by its Group Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed that the incident happened at about 2:34 a.m., leading to the shutdown of supply to the affected areas. According to Ezeh, the explosion disrupted power transmission, leaving the entire Anambra State and Oji River area without electricity supply. “We are in close contact with the TCN team who are already working tirelessly to rectify the problem. Power supply will be restored as soon as the repairs are completed,” the statement read. President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Monday commissioned more projects as he continued the tour of his constituency in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.
