Lanre Arogundade Elected National President of Ekiti Parapo College Old Students Association

A former Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and one-time President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr. Lanre Arogundade, has emerged National President of the Ekiti Parapo College Ido-Ekiti Old Students Association (EPCOSA).

The election took place during the Association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Reunion, held on Saturday, November 22, at the school hall. Announcing the results, the spokesperson of the EPCOSA Electoral Committee, Prof. Oluwatoyin Babatunde, declared Arogundade winner after he secured 275 votes to defeat his opponent, Prof. Olu Adeleye, who polled 32 votes.

Arogundade takes over from another media practitioner, Mr. Dotun Adekanmbi, who served for four years and steered the Association through the successful 70th anniversary celebration of Ekiti Parapo College in 2024. The newly elected president will lead the Association for the 2025–2027 service years.

In his acceptance speech, Arogundade—an accomplished journalist, author and Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC)—pledged to consolidate the achievements of past administrations while charting fresh paths for the Association’s progress. He announced plans to harmonise inputs from executives, class sets, branches and the general membership to formulate a new strategic development plan for EPCOSA.

“The new Exco consists of professionals from diverse fields whose collective expertise will guide our efforts to strengthen security within the school, upgrade its facilities, motivate students and enhance staff welfare,” he said. “With the support of all members, we are confident of overcoming every challenge before us.”

Other elected officers include Dr. Olusola Ogunsina as Vice President; Engr. Deji Afolabi as General Secretary; and Mrs. Adeola Babatunde as Assistant Secretary. Also elected were Mr. Ilesanmi Adesuyi (Financial Secretary/Treasurer); Mr. Samson Ekundayo (Auditor); Mr. Kayode Okimoba (Legal Adviser); and Mr. Ayo Ajiboye (Public Relations Officer/Social Secretary).

Founded on January 29, 1954, Ekiti Parapo College, Ido-Ekiti, remains the first and only community-owned post-primary school established through the collective efforts of Ekiti sons and daughters. Its old students’ body, EPCOSA, continues to play a critical role in sustaining the institution’s legacy and advancing its development.
