NCC, DBI TRAIN 100 FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO STAFF ON DATA ANALYSIS, CYBER SECURITY AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

One hundred staff of the Federal Polytechnic Oko have completed a five-day intensive training on advanced digital skills, data analysis, cyber security and emerging technologies, courtesy of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) through its Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Abuja.

The capacity-building programme, held at the institution’s ICT Academy, was executed under the NCC’s Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI) and formally declared open by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe.

Participants were trained on digital skills development, SPSS and Microsoft Power BI for data analysis and visualization, cyber security best practices, ICT productivity tools, e-teaching/e-library systems, and the use of emerging technologies for academic and administrative efficiency.

Dr. Awuzie expressed delight that Federal Polytechnic Oko was selected as a beneficiary of the ADEPTI programme, noting that the training aligns with her administration’s commitment to continuous staff development.

“This training is in line with management’s vision of enhancing staff capacity for optimum performance. This is the era of technological innovation, and our institution must remain at the forefront,” she said. She commended the NCC and DBI for their support and reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to continuously equip staff with digital competencies that will strengthen the institution’s academic and administrative processes.

Speaking on behalf of the President/CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute, Mr. David Daser, the programme coordinator, Mr. Calistus Oko, praised the Polytechnic for demonstrating commitment to staff development by requesting the ADEPTI intervention.

He explained that the programme aims to equip participants with core knowledge of internet governance, emerging technologies, data analytics, cyber security, online collaboration tools, and the automation of educational and administrative processes using ICT. He emphasized that the programme was fully funded by the NCC.

At the closing ceremony, Mr. Oko commended participants for their enthusiasm and urged them to apply the new skills to improve workflow, drive innovation and enhance service delivery in the institution. He further revealed DBI’s readiness to partner with tertiary institutions in ICT, telecommunications, e-learning, system design, project management, networking and cyber security training.

Representing the Rector at the closing ceremony, Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Nkiru Akabuike, thanked the NCC and DBI for extending the training to Oko Polytechnic. She pledged that the knowledge gained would be put to effective use and lauded the Rector, Dr. Awuzie, for consistently attracting development opportunities to the institution.

Other participants—including Dr. Ijeoma Okechukwu, Mr. Love Iruoma and Mrs. Jennifer Nkiru Dike—commended the Rector for her commitment to staff welfare and praised the instructors for their professionalism, calling for more training programmes to accommodate additional staff.

The institution’s ICT Director, Dr. Amobi Chiamogu, assured participants that training manuals and certificates would be made available once processing is completed.
