Moghalu Rejects Anambra Governorship Election Results, Decries Omission of Labour Party Symbol on Ballot Papers

Chief Dr. George Moghalu, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the just-concluded Anambra State election, has rejected the outcome of the poll, describing it as a sham marred by irregularities and systemic failures.

Addressing journalists at his country home in Nnewi, Dr. Moghalu said he was still receiving reports from his party agents and supporters across the state and would issue a formal statement after reviewing the full details.

He, however, expressed deep concern over what he called “a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise Labour Party supporters,” following the omission and improper representation of the party’s symbol on the ballot papers used for the election.

“It is shocking that in an election of this magnitude, INEC could not ensure that the Labour Party’s logo was clearly and correctly represented on the ballot. Many voters could not even identify our party, which is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the integrity of the process,” Moghalu said.

He further criticized the electoral process, particularly the inability of security agencies to prevent widespread vote buying, despite the deployment of over 45,000 police officers across the state.

According to him, “The level of vote buying witnessed in this election is unprecedented in the political history of Anambra. With such heavy security presence, one would have expected a more credible process.”

Dr. Moghalu also condemned reports of underage voting in some polling units and questioned how such individuals found their names on the INEC voters’ register.

He called for a thorough investigation into the lapses recorded during the exercise, insisting that the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process must not be compromised.

“Our democracy deserves better. What happened on election day was a travesty, and we cannot allow such errors and manipulations to define the will of the people,” Moghalu declared.
