NYCN Appoints Godwin Okoye as Acting Chairman of Anambra State Chapter

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appointed Comrade Godwin Ugo Okoye as the Acting Chairman of its Anambra State Chapter, following a leadership restructuring approved by the organisation’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The appointment was announced on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the NYCN National Secretariat, during a session attended by national executives and state representatives. The leadership change followed what the NEC described as confirmed acts of insubordination and executive misconduct by the suspended State Chairman, Surveyor Emeka Obi.
Comrade Okoye received his appointment letter from the National President of NYCN, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo, in the presence of the National Vice President (South East), Comr. Amb. Innocent Nduanya, and leaders of various youth-based associations.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy President of NYCN, Amb. Innocent Nduanya, who hails from Anambra State, praised the NEC for enforcing constitutional order and safeguarding the organisation’s integrity. He said the Council acted in strict compliance with its constitution to maintain unity, transparency, and credibility in youth leadership at a critical time.

Nduanya described Okoye’s emergence as a reflection of the national body's confidence in his capacity, discipline and commitment to the values of the Council. He urged stakeholders in the state to support the new leadership and charged the Acting Chairman to uphold the NYCN Constitution, remain loyal to the apex leadership, and collaborate with all youth structures to advance development initiatives across Anambra.
Speaking after receiving his appointment letter in Awka, Comrade Okoye expressed gratitude to the NEC for the confidence reposed in him. He described his new role as a privilege and a call to higher responsibility, pledging to prioritise unity, reorganisation, and credible youth participation across the 21 local government areas of the state.

He further promised to run an inclusive administration focused on strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and restoring the vibrancy for which the Anambra NYCN Chapter was known. His immediate plans, he said, include stabilising the chapter, engaging critical youth groups, and resolving outstanding administrative issues in line with constitutional provisions.

Comrade Okoye is expected to assume full administrative responsibilities immediately and oversee the affairs of the NYCN in Anambra State pending the appointment of a substantive chairman by the National Secretariat.
