A leaked memo has revealed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's plan to draft Senator Al Makura, a close ally of former President Muhammadu Buhari, to persuade the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc to remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move comes after failed attempts by the Progressive Governors' Forum, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party's National Working Committee to convince Buhari to intervene against the expected exit of the CPC Bloc from the party.

The CPC bloc, comprising notable figures like Abubakar Malami, Pantami, and Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has been considering leaving the APC due to disagreements with Tinubu's administration. This potential exodus is seen as a significant blow to the party's chances in the 2027 presidential election.

According to sources, who preferred anonymity said that President Tinubu has offered Al Makura a potential chairmanship position in the APC if he successfully convinces Buhari to persuade his loyalists to stay in the party. Al Makura has reportedly called an emergency meeting on Monday to address the press, claiming Buhari has agreed to keep his followers in the APC.

This development comes as notable figures like Atiku Abubakar, El Rufai, Tambuwal, Achike Udenwa amongst others are exploring alternatives political platforms ahead of the 2027 polls, citing dissatisfaction with Tinubu's governance. The memo raises questions about the APC's internal dynamics and future prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
