CP Orutugu Condemns Attack On Vigilante Operatives in Umunze, Calls for Community Support in Policing
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu FWC MNIPS PhD, has strongly condemned the brazen attack on vigilante operatives in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of June 5, 2025, saw suspected armed men attack the vigilante's office, setting five operational vehicles ablaze and inflicting a fatal injury on one of the security operatives during a gun duel. The attack also resulted in parts of the security office being burnt.
CP Orutugu, through a statement by the police PRO in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga urged community members to support the police-led joint security force, already deployed to the area, with vital information to bring the perpetrators to justice. He stressed that the police is determined to hold those responsible for the attack accountable and are working tirelessly to ensure that peace and order are restored in the community.
The Commissioner of Police also assured the public that the police-led joint security force will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The Anambra State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue to work with the community to achieve this goal.
The police command however appealed to residents of Umunze and surrounding communities to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators, as the command also assures the public that all information provided will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
