Federal Polytechnic Oko Rector Vows Zero Tolerance for Extortion, Sexual Harassment

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has reaffirmed her administration’s zero-tolerance stance on extortion and sexual harassment, warning that any staff found culpable will face strict disciplinary action.

Dr. Awuzie issued the warning on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while receiving the School of Financial Studies on a courtesy visit to her office.

She condemned such unethical practices, noting that they tarnish the reputation of the institution. The Rector urged lecturers to uphold integrity, treat students with dignity, and regard them as their own children.

“We must launder the image of our institution. I plead for your support as we work together to make this Polytechnic great. Deans and Heads of Departments must join in the fight against indiscipline,” she said.

Dr. Awuzie expressed appreciation to the School of Financial Studies for their cooperation and support, congratulating staff members from the school who were recently appointed to administrative positions in the polytechnic.

Earlier, the Dean of the School of Financial Studies, Dr. Nkechi Aroh, thanked the Rector for recognising and appointing staff from her school to serve in her administration. She commended Dr. Awuzie’s numerous projects across the institution and assured her of the school’s full support.

Dr. Aroh also condemned extortion and sexual harassment, pledging that her faculty would resist such misconduct. She called for stiffer sanctions against any lecturer found guilty of these offences.
